firmCHANNEL, a leader in digital signage software, today announced that it was releasing firmDROID – a mobile version of its operating platform which can be installed on any Android device, including tablets. firmDROID will convert any mobile device or tablet running Google Android to a fully functional firmCHANNEL Enterprise digital signage player.

"With the explosion of Android devices on the market, and only more to come in the near future, we believe the digital signage industry is ready for a breath of fresh air. firmDROID will allow anyone with an Android device to display the full scale HD digital signage just like a normal signage player, at a fraction of the cost."

The customer needs only to download a small android application on their device to begin the process. Once firmDROID has been downloaded to a client's device, it can then be directed to a firmCHANNEL Enterprise server. The firmDROID player will connect over the Internet to receive any scheduled content that may be assigned to play.

firmDROID will have the same capabilities as any normal digital signage player, including but not limited to scheduling, reporting, monitoring of content. As well as retrieving online dynamically changing XML, RSS text, and video streams.

Using the device's WiFi connection, firmDROID will download and cache its media locally, thus saving on bandwidth. Many Android devices now include an HDMI port which will also allow video/audio transmission to a much larger display if needed.
